Digital Technologies News Term 3, Week 6
During Week 4, parents and caregivers were invited to the Chromebook Information Session where details were given in regards to the introduction of Chromebooks from Year 4 in 2020. This session proved to be extremely worthwhile, with a large number in attendance, and a range of questions raised and discussed. Further information will be sent out in the coming weeks around the purchasing of Chromebooks through our school IT provider, IPAU.
We have recently purchased a class set of BBC micro:bits which will be used across the Primary classes in helping to develop the students’ coding and computational thinking skills. The Micro:bit is a pocket-sized handheld, programmable micro-computer, specifically designed for students. It has an accelerometer so it can detect motion and knows when you’re on the move, a compass knows which direction you’re heading in and it can use a low energy Bluetooth connection to interact with other devices and the Internet. Projects currently being planned include pedometers, electronic sports scoring devices and electronic ‘rock, paper, scissors’. Visit the micro:bit website for more information microbit.org
